Good news for wine lovers losing weight on the Tim Noakes diet.  The carb content of wine, red or white is around 3.5 grams per 100 grams.   This means that half a bottle of wine will not necessarily tip too far into the daily carb allowance. The carbohydrate content of a litre of wine would be approximately 35 grams.  Measured COD of  wine is about 300 grams per litre.  This shows that 1 gram of COD  very roughly equates to 10 grams of carbohydrate.  These are generalizations, but is does give a comparitor for the different ways of measuring biodegradable organic material.       Banting
