“The hills known as Durbanville Hills are actually part of the Tygerberg, or “Leopard Mountain.” In the mid-1600s, early Cape Settlers named them Gevlekte Luipaartsberg, meaning “Spotted Leopard Mountain,” because the patchwork of indigenous shrubs resembled a leopard’s spotted coat.”
