La Motte’s history dates back to the late 17th century when it was established by French Huguenots who fled to South Africa. The estate is named after La Motte d’Aigues in Provence, France. The architecture reflects its heritage, with well-preserved Cape Dutch buildings that add to its charm. Beyond wine, La Motte is a center for cultural and artistic endeavours. It hosts the La Motte Museum, which features the works of famous South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef. The estate is committed to promoting South African culture and regularly hosts classical music concerts and art exhibitions.
